As the daughter of a career Marine Corps officer, I'm quite patriotic. So, given that the Fourth of July is this weekend, I wanted to share a fun dessert recipe that I love and that is both quick and budget-friendly (under $20).
The festive trifle that I made is always a crowd pleaser, as it's light and refreshing after a long day of barbecuing and boozing. You don't have to be a baker to make this, I'm for sure not, which is why I cheated and bought Cool Whip and pre-made Angel food cake. Enjoy the deliciousness. :)
P.S. There are so many other tasty and patriotic desserts out there. Make it your goal to just try something. I find that doing something yourself, regardless of whether you're making a dessert or craft, is always rewarding. You got this!
1/3 cup of sugar
1 Angel food cake
1 pint of strawberries
1 pint of blueberries
1 large container of whipped cream (Cool Whip)
Get to It:
- Wash and cut your strawberries. In a large bowl, combine sugar and your sliced strawberries. Stir and place in the fridge for approximately 2 hours. You will notice that a syrup will begin to form.
- Cube or tear little pieces of the Angel food cake.
- In your trifle bowl, add a layer of strawberries, angel food cake, blueberries and whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you are content.
